The Nitro Jam World Finals presented by the United States Air Force will feature a weekend long celebration of the military with a Military Appreciation Day on Friday, October 15 and half price tickets throughout the weekend for all active military personnel.

 

Lt. Col. John Feather of the 317th Recruiting Squadron was on hand to talk about the unique partnership between Nitro Jam and the United State Air Force and the exciting weekend of championship racing and thrilling action on tap for the Nitro Jam World Finals.

 

 

At the conclusion of the press conference Virginia Motorsports Park General Manager Bryan Pierce and Nitro Jam representatives made a generous ticket donation to Operation Homefront and local representative Ryan Smith.

 

 

  

Operation Homefront is an organization that provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of service members and wounded soldiers. Since its inception in 2002 Operation Homefront has provided more than $92 million dollars to programs to benefit military families.

The IHRA Nitro Jam series, a division of Feld Motor Sports, the world’s largest live entertainment company, will be returning to Virginia the weekend of October 15-16 for the Nitro Jam World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park. Featuring a brand new format and a show never before seen in drag racing, the new Nitro Jam series features dozens of the world’s fastest nitro-burning dragsters and funny cars, in addition to some of the most over the top exhibition acts on the planet.

 

 

This past Friday drivers, media members, state representatives and a few special guests gathered at the James Center in downtown Richmond to celebrate the return of Nitro Jam to Virginia with a special press conference hosted by track General Manager Bryan Pierce and several Nitro Jam representatives.

 

 

Nitro Jam representatives announced the lowest ticket prices ever offered for a Nitro Jam event at just $20 in advance and $10 for children. The Nitro Jam World Finals presented by the United States Air Force will also feature a weekend long celebration of the military with a Military Appreciation Day on Friday, October 15 and half price tickets throughout the weekend for all active military personnel.

Also on hand to celebrate Nitro Jam’s return to Virginia were professional drivers Bruce Litton and John Dunn. Litton, driver of the Lucas Slick Mist Top Fuel Dragster, and Dunn, who had his beautiful 1973 Duster Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car on display, joined local sportsman racer Terry Logan in welcoming the crowd and talking about the upcoming event and what fans can expect at the biggest Nitro Jam of the season.

Carpenter in the Pro Mod finals of the Big Showdown at VMP presented by Larry’s Custom T’s this past Saturday.

 

The bizarre finish capped of a wild evening of racing that also included two X275 Drag Radial classes, Top Sportsman, and a Gamblers Race.

 

The finals of the top X275 race featured another wild final round when Dale Handy’s 79 Mustang got up on two wheels and traveled nearly the entire eighth mile with the front two wheels in the air. Handy would turn in a 5.850, 116 MPH pass, but it was Shelley Smith who picked up the win with a 5.210, 138 MPH pass.

 

In the slower X275 Keith McLaughlin took home top honors after final round opponent Darrell Mahoney broke.

 

Gary Pitts and his S10 Pickup ran a 5.043 on a 5.04 dial to narrowly beat Rodney Pryor in a very close Top Sportsman final (Pryor ran a 5.025 on a 5.02 dial)

With only three ET Points races left in the season it is once again time to be thinking about the bracket finals.  As part of the IHRA Raider Division VMP will be sending a team of 35 participants to race at Rockingham, NC.  The team breakdown will be as follows: 14 Top ET, 10 Modified, 8 Jr. Dragster and 4 street points.  The top points finishers in each category will have first right of refusal on whether they would like to participate.  The race will take place October 20 – 24.  Any  interested racers can e-mail Marc at Mwesler@VirginiaMotorsports.com.
